e-letter 5/25/18

Wow! What an amazing Sunday of worship and celebration we shared last week! At each of our services we celebrated the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the church universal. We also celebrated the 35th anniversary of Suntree UM and gave thanks to God for all the ways God has worked through this church to touch hearts, change lives, and bring healing and hope to this community and beyond, especially in our Cuba mission which is clearly on fire with the power of the Holy Spirit.

At the 9:30 Gathering service we baptized three youth and confirmed 14 into the faith of Christ and membership in the church. It was such a joy and privilege to be a part of their faith journey as they made their commitment to Christ and the church. Throughout the rest of the morning, we welcomed 12 adults and 4 more children into the life of the church. Then at the Gathering we commissioned 75 youth and adults for a week of hands-on mission and service in the upper Keys, Key West, and Puerto Rico. We look forward to hearing about their work later in June.

Finally, we capped off the day with an old-fashioned covered dish luncheon where we remembered and celebrated the founding pastors and members of Suntree, told stories and celebrated all that God has done and is doing in this place. All that is to say that God is so good, all the time! We have so much for which to be grateful, so much to celebrate.

We continue our “Back to the Future” message series, turning our thoughts from the past to the future. For the next 4 weeks we will explore the ways God is calling Suntree to be the church God wants and needs. We will share some of the highlights and goals we have set for ministry in our “4D Vision for e3 People”. Our vision will build on our previous ministry to provide a blueprint for mission that fulfills God’s destiny for Suntree UMC.

This week in worship we will think about the theological concept of the Trinity, God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and how our 3 Big Ideas for mission and ministry reflect the work of our Triune God in our individual lives and in our life together as a church in ministry for Christ in the world. I encourage you to read John 3:1-17 in preparation for worship and if you haven’t done so already, to pick up a copy of the 4D Vision Task Force Report found on the tables in the lobbies of the worship center and the Sanctuary.

God is always faithful. We at Suntree UMC long to be faithful in response to God and God’s call for us to love God, love each other and love our neighbors in extraordinary ways. Committed, Christ centered people labored 35 years ago to give birth to a church that would carry on the work of Christ and the Kingdom and we long to be faithful in building on that great foundation. I pray you will join us in worship this week as we continue to fulfill the destiny that God has planned for us to share God’s love, to be instruments of reconciliation, and transformation in this community and beyond.

See you in worship!

Grace and Peace,

Annette
