Prayer. Study. Friendship. Connection. Warmth. Caring. Sharing. Impact! That’s what small groups are all about. Small groups form with the help of our small groups coordinator. Generally, there are 6-12 people in a group; groups can form at any time of the year; meetings are held in people’s homes; and meeting times vary depending on the group’s preference. Some groups decide to meet once a week, every other week – even once a month. The groups can be comprised of just men, just women, couples, or a mixed group. Again, it all depends on personal preference. Being in a group is a growth opportunity – members share life struggles and joys as they travel along their individual spiritual journeys. Small groups usually stay centered on four keep areas – bible study, fellowship, support and service – because of their impact on people’s lives. Each group determines how much time is spent in each area. Here is a story of one small group’s experience when they decided to increase their focus on service. Small groups have group leaders who facilitate the meetings and provide the organizational leadership required to startup a small group. This role can eventually be shared. Resources The church has two libraries: a lending library and a curriculum library. The lending library includes many resource materials, commentaries, works by contemporary authors, and more. Facilitators often borrow relevant materials to augment a group’s study. The curriculum library includes videos, tapes, workbooks, and various studies that small groups can use.
