Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity of  Brevard County
This Christian, non-profit housing ministry works to both eliminate poverty housing around the world and to make adequate housing a matter of conscience and action.  Houses are built with those in need in conjunction with individuals and groups from around the community who donate their time, energy and treasures.  Volunteer labor is used to keep building costs down.  Even with that, in Brevard County, it costs an average of $45,000 to sponsor the building of a Habitat for Humanity home.

SUMC Habitat For Humanity mission ministry
An On-going Commitment – Building a house for Habitat for Humanity takes a season – a season of giving and a season of volunteers.  Thanks to the commitment of many, many people, we’ve had lots of seasons – dating back to the late 1980s.  During the actual building process, numerous small groups and individuals from the congregation both volunteer at the construction work site and volunteer to supply lunches to feed the workers.  Generally, this is a 5 or 6 month commitment.  In addition, there is a financial commitment.  Thanks to the community who have attended many of our fundraisers and the congregation members themselves, Suntree United Methodist Church has in the past met it’s commitment to fully finance and build five complete homes.  Are we done? Absolutely not!  In the past few years, SUMC has partnered with area churches to fund and build new homes. Keep coming back to this site to find out about our next project!

Happening Now

Apostle Build Central

SUMC along with 5 other local churches, funded and built a house at 710 Stone St. in Cocoa for the Oquendo family.

The house has been competed and the dedication service was held on August 24, 2013.

At the present time, SUMC volunteers work as needed on various HFH projects.

When SUMC sponsors a house, volunteers work every Saturday and  during the week.

A sign-up opportunity is scheduled  prior to start of construction.
